While racers steered heavily into sim games at the time, especially franchises like Need for Speed which ditched their street racing roots and began focusing more on track days, Burnout continued to hone in on the enigmatic open road and doubled down on frightening crashes and endless flames. There's an undeniable presence that the Burnout franchise brings to the racing genre.
